The map below displays the comparative discrepancy by state between the amount hospitals charge and the money actually reimbursed by Medicare for common medical procedures. The darker the state, the larger the average discrepancy.

For example, hospitals in Texas have the greatest percentage discrepancy receiving only 15.13% on average of their billing reimbursed by Medicare. On the other hand, hospitals in Maryland get the highest percentage of their billings reimbursed by Medicare at 94.37%.
